Chapter 3

Angie and Jesse were in the midst of talking about the latest news when he finally pulled up in a lot that held not only hundreds of cars, but had a lot of people walking through. “Jesse, where are we? What’s going on?” She asked, inching up and trying to see everything. She had been so passionate about their conversation she had completely missed the sign when they pulled in. “Jesse, are you ignoring me?”

“No,” he simply replied, finally finding a spot and parking. “Do you trust me?”

“Yes, with my life, but that doesn’t answer my question,” she hinted.

Reaching into the arm rest, Jesse pulled out a blindfold and got out the truck. “C’mon on,” Jesse spoke once he opened her door and extended his hand. “Trust me to answer your question in like… 10mins. Please?”

Squinting her eyes and shaking her head, Angie grabbed her purse, his hand and allowed him to whisk her off to only God knows where. “I like surprises, just as much as the next person, but is this really necessary?” She asked as the blindfold came into view and everything else disappeared. As excited as she was, a part of began to panic as the dark enveloped her. Every since she had gotten her sight back even the smallest ounce of darkness made her tick.

“Ticket sir?” A lady requested.

“Who is that? Jesse, seriously where are we?”

“Angela,” he warned, reaching into his back pocket and handing the young lady his tickets. “Sorry,” he mouthed.

“It’s okay, sir. You two enjoy yourselves!” She exclaimed.

After walking and standing and walking a little more, Jesse finally led Angie down a row and eased her down into her seat. “Now, I want you to relax, forget about everything we have waiting for us at work or at home. I want you to enjoy yourself and me, okay?”

She nodded, but right after she playfully snapped. “Okay, but I’m going to find it hard to enjoy myself with this this thing blocking my sight. Jesse, you know I hate this, it reminds me of the time I lost my sight. I hate being in the dark, you know that.”

“I’m sorry… I didn’t think about what this would do or how it would make you feel, really I just… Hold on!” He nearly panicked, quickly reaching back and finally giving her sight. “Better?” He asked coming into her view. “I’m sorry, Angie.”

Smiling, Angie reached up and massaged his cheeks. “No, it’s okay. I wasn’t going to freak out or anything, I just… It brought back some bad memories and I don’t ever want to relive them again.”

Jesse leaned over and kissed both of her eyes, before going down and kissing her glossy lips. “I’ll never blindfold you again,” he promised and just before he could kiss her again the lights were turned down low and a slow tempo began to pump for the speakers. “Hey, before everything get started I just want you to answer one question for me… Who do you love more than anything in this world?”

“What?” Angie laughed and was shocked to silence when a familiar voice began to belt out lyrics that made her heart melt into the pit of her stomach.

“How are you this evening Pennsylvania!? Are you ready for the show of your life?” Another guy called in the middle of the song. “Are you ready for an evening with… Eric Benet!?”

“Oh my god!” Angie yelped. “Jesse! Jesse, I love you so much!” She squealed, throwing her arms around him and planting a tender kiss on his lips. “Oh I love you, big daddy.”

“Who out there got that real love!” Eric Benet asked, once he finished his first song. “If you got that real love, I want you to grab your partner and let them know… Precious, a word that comes to mind, when the morning comes and you’re asleep by myside. Cherish, a word that could describe, how our love has stood the many tests of time,” he sang.

“We got something real, in a world full of make believe,” Jesse sang to Angie as they danced in each other’s arms.

And for the next hour or so, Eric Benet and his band entertained all in attendance. At one point, Eric was so into the crowd and their excitement, he sent his backup singers back to get some rest while he sat on the edge of the stage and continued to give the crowd more and more of his wonderful voice. Even though they were in a stadium full of people, it felt as if Eric was singing to Angie and Jesse alone. His words moved them and wrapped them up in a warm cocoon of love and it wasn’t until the lights began to rise did they finally come back to reality.

“I want you all to be on the lookout for a special, special, gift to my fans, whom without I would not be the man I am today,” Eric said, coming to his feet. “Thank you all for coming out and partying with me and Pennsylvania, I promise I will be back!” The crowd erupted into applause and cheers as he bowed and left the stage.

“Sooooo, did you enjoy yourself?” Jesse asked, after they finally made it out towards the front of the stadium.

Stopping, Angie looked up at her husband and smiled. “Are you kidding me?! Jesse, I can’t remember the last time I had so much fun! How did you get tickets on such short notice? And good tickets at that.”

“I’m Jesse Hubbard, I have my ways,” he hinted, wrapping his arm around her waist and continuing their journey to his truck. “You hungry?”

Laughing at his earlier statement, Angie hugged him closely as they walked. “Very. I was so excited I didn’t even think about the concession stand once! We can just pick something up on our way home, we don’t have to eat out.”

“Or we can just let big daddy do his thing,” he hinted, helping her into the truck.

About 15minutes later, Jesse pulled into a hotel parking lot and after checking in, led Angie to their home away from home for the night. “Jesse, why are you doing all of this?”

“Because, I feel like it. It’s been awhile since we had a break, I mean a real break! And though we both work stressful jobs, you’ve been working harder than me these past few months.”

“But you didn’t have to…” When he cut his eyes at her, Angie quickly closed her mouth and looked towards the door that led to their room for the night.

Smiling, Jesse kissed her forehead. “My dear, you’re catching on quicker and quicker!” He teased, opening their door and allowing her to go in first. The room was completely dark until Jesse reached back and flicked on the lights to show a room full of daffodils and unlit candles. “I told them to not light the candles, I wasn’t sure how long we would be trying to get out of that place. And right after I checked us in, I went ahead and put in our order for dinner.”

“Jesse, this is… You’re so wonderful to me,” she replied, turning to kiss him. “I truly love you.”

Before they knew it, things had gotten really hot, really fast! Jesse had Angie’s front pinned against the hotel door and his hand began to slide up the back of her leg as he gently bit into her shoulder. “Tell me what you want,” he whispered, hiking her leg up a bit and allowing her to feel him. All of him through their clothes.

Moaning, Angie bored her nails into the wall and arched. “Jesse Hubbard,” she strained.

“Say it again,” he ordered, now turning her around to face him and gently grabbing her chin with one hand and gripping both of her hands above her head with the other. “What do you want?”

Angie snaked one hand away from his grasp, slid it around his waist and thrust him further into her. “You,” she replied, without a doubt, without hesitation.

Jesse groaned at her take charge attitude and knew right then in there, tonight was going to be a night like no other. Last night was damn good, but he could tell by the look in her eyes and the way he was feeling, this one was going to go down in history. “Then it’s me you’ll get… All of me.”

Running out of the bathroom, Angie rolled into the bed and over to the other side. “You play too much, Jesse Hubbard,” she laughed as he came after her with a spray bottle of water. “Stop it!”

“No, ma’am! You started it and now I’m going to finish it!” He yelped, running around the bed and just as she jumped back in, grab her legs and pulled her to him. “Can’t stand the heat, stay out the kitchen,” he teased, wrapping her legs around his waist and lifting the water bottle.

Just before he could spray and she could try to escape their phones began to ring. Both looked toward the sitting area and knew that their weekend of relaxation and loving had come to an end. “It must be an emergency,” Angie said, sitting up and following him over to where their phones laid.

Simultaneously, they picked up. “Chief Hubbard.”

Sometime later, after they dried completely off and got ready to head out, they headed out to the truck and while Jesse checked them out, Angie called to check on Ellie, who was doing just fine with Madison. By the time she finished speaking with her, Jesse had come out and they were on their way. “Thank you,” Angie said.

“I feel bad it didn’t last as long as I wanted. I wanted you to fully relax and…”

“Hey, I relaxed!” She cheered. “Best relaxing weekend I’ve had in a very long time and I appreciate you doing this for me… For us. It means a lot!”

“Yes, really. At least we had time to ourselves for what, two days. Friday night, all day Saturday and this Sunday morning. I enjoyed myself… Thoroughly.”

Chuckling, Jesse sped past the hospital and toward route 6. “There is always something going on over here,” he sighed.

“I thought you were dropping me off at the hospital?”

“No, Perry said they need all hands on deck and when I said you and I were together he said I should bring you with me. They need a doctor on hand.”

“Oh boy, that doesn’t sound good at all,” she sighed, reaching to the back and grabbing her tennis off the floor. Because she never knew when she was going to get called in, she kept a pair of flats and tennis in both her trunk and Jesse’s truck. She also kept a change of clothes. “You can never be too prepared,” she always said.

By the time she had her shoes on and her hair up in a ponytail, Jesse was pulling up a few feet away from the crash site. “Oh my god,” she mumbled.

“I’ll see you later?” Jesse equipped as he helped her out the truck.

“Yep, see you later. Be careful, I love you.”

“Love you more.”

And with a peck on the lips, they both ran to the middle of the crash site. Angie went one way and Jesse went the other. “Tell me what you got,” Jesse said as he caught up with Perry.

“What do we have?” Angie asked one of the officers. “Where are the EMTs?”

“They’re having a hard time trying to get through this traffic. It’s backed up both ways and it’s hard for people to move out of their way. How did you and Chief get here?”

“The back way, through the wooded path… Jesse!” She called, waving him and Perry over and giving the young woman before her another look. “I need the EMTs here and now! She needs a C-Collar, she needs fluids and… Jesse, have them come through the path. Whatever happens to their bus, I’ll get it fixed, but she needs help.”

“I’m on it.”

“And get my medical bag.”

“It’s okay, sweetie… You’re going to be just fine.”

The young woman harshly swallowed and reached out to the over turned car. “My… mmm… My grandfather is… He’s in there. You gotta get him.”

Angie looked back at the flipped over car and nodded. “Don’t you worry about him, I’ll take care of you both,” she promised, before giving the officer a few orders and running over to the car. “Hello, Sir! Can you tell me your name?”

Coughing, the man looked out the small space and into her brown eyes. “Joseph.”

“Okay, Joseph, my name is Angela Hubbard and I’m a doctor.”

“Hub.. Hu… Hubbard?”

Nodding, Angie reached in and cupped his cheek. “Yes, sir, Hubbard. And my husband is Chief Jesse Hubbard and he is getting the team here now to help get you out. Do you think you can hold on for me? Just a little while longer?”

“Dr. Hubbard,” he choked…

“Please, call me Angie.”

He mustered up a little smile, before reaching up and squeezing her hand. “Take care of my baby…”

“I will. I promise, I will take care of you both.”
